Muscat – Oman Air will fly 48 daily flights between Muscat and Doha during this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar as part of Match Day Shuttle flights arrangement with Qatar Airways. The pact is part of agreements signed with Gulf airlines that will see operations of more than 180 daily shuttle flights to Qatar, allowing fans to fly in from nearby cities and ease accommodation pressure in Doha. Akbar al Baker, CEO, Qatar Airways, told a news conference on Thursday that UAE’s flydubai, Oman Air, Kuwait Airways and Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) will operate shuttle flights and that the UAE’s Etihad and Air Arabia may also join the plan. The agreement with Oman Air was signed in the presence of H E Azzan bin Qassim al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Tourism in the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism. He stated that the signing of the agreement between Oman Air and Qatar Airways is within the framework of the strong relations between Oman and Qatar. “The agreement will contribute to the success of the World Cup, which is being held for the first time in an Arab country,” he said. According to Abdulaziz bin Saud al Raisi, CEO of Oman Air, the airline is proud to join its partners in Qatar to help connect football fans to the sport they love and enhance their experience with convenient and seamless travel options tailored to busy schedules. “Match Day Shuttle flights are a great way for fans to see more of the rich and vibrant cultures of the region. As the football world comes together in Qatar, Oman Air is ready to welcome everyone on board to enjoy the signature warmth and hospitality Omanis are renowned for,” Raisi said. Football fans based in the GCC states will soon be able to book their Match Day Shuttle flights. The service is designed to connect fans seamlessly to Qatar so they can attend their respective matches, before departing Doha on the same day. Passengers who book a Match Day Shuttle flight service will benefit from a smooth journey, which includes dedicated on-ground transportation between the airport and stadium, stated Qatar Airways. By choosing to book a Match Day Shuttle flight, fans will arrive in the morning and depart in the evening, with no hotel accommodation required. ‘Additionally, a no check-in baggage policy will simplify an easy-in, easy-out travel itinerary for passengers.’ Flydubai will operate up to 60 daily flights from Dubai, carrying up to 2,500 fans, Baker said, while Oman Air will operate up to 48 daily flights to and from Muscat carrying up to 3,400 fans. Saudia said it will operate up to 60 daily flights carrying up to 10,000 passengers from Riyadh and Jeddah. Kuwait Airways will fly up to 20 flights a day carrying up to 1,700 fans.
