Camp Invention: Encourages curiosity and creativity to solve problems

Students enrolled in Camp Invention will use their natural curiosity and creativity to solve problems in hands-on activities the week of June 13. Held at Jennings Elementary School in Quincy, it is open to students K-6 grades.

Camp Invention promotes STEM — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — learning; builds confidence, leadership, perseverance and resourcefulness; and encourages entrepreneurship. 

Camp Invention is facilitated Mellissa Connin, Jennings principal, and taught by local educators. The camp is nearly full, but there are still some spaces available.

This year, the Explore program encourages children to be confident in their ideas and explore their innovativeness though hands-on activities including: 

Educators are finding students have “unfinished learning” and other challenges due to COVID-19. These lessons and opportunities are fun ways to learn, according to the National Inventors Hall of Fame, the originators of Camp Invention. 

The new Camp Invention program for 2022 has been developed with safety in mind. Programs will follow state and local guidelines to help provide a healthy, safe and fun environment. It serves 130,000 students every year and partners with more than 1,800 schools and districts across the nation.
