Hudson Link Buses Support Thousands of Visitors to Popular Shared Use Path

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that Hudson Link's free shuttle bus servicing the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge shared use path will restart service each weekend beginning Saturday, May 28 through Sunday, October 30. This shuttle service provides pedestrians and bicyclists with unparalleled service from select locations in Westchester and Rockland counties to one of the longest shared use paths in the country. Nearly a half a million visitors have enjoyed the amenities along the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge shared used path since it opened two years ago.

"New York is unique in its unrivaled beauty and the countless outdoor activities it has to offer," Governor Hochul said. "By offering a free shuttle service and increased access to bike paths, we are offering New Yorkers an opportunity to explore the beauty of the state while boosting our tourism economy this Memorial Day weekend."

The shuttle buses will run every 20 minutes between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. on weekends and allow easy access to the landings on both sides of the recreational path. The shuttle serves four stops and travels both eastbound and westbound to support usage of the shared use path.

If the primary landing parking lots on each side are full, visitors can find additional parking in Westchester at the Tarrytown Train Station and in Rockland at Palisades Center - Lot J. Visitors can also take the Metro-North Hudson Line to Tarrytown. The path's parking lots feature a four-hour time limit and fill up quickly on weekends. Visitors are strongly encouraged to check the bridge's Twitter account  ( @GMMCB ) for updates on parking lot status and weather conditions. The Rockland Landing is located at 1200 Route 9W in South Nyack, nestled within Interchange 10 of the New York State Thruway. The path is accessible to local residents and cyclists via a spur that also connects to the Esposito Trail, local sidewalks and State Bicycle Route 9.  The Westchester Landing is located at 333 South Broadway in Tarrytown. 

Every Hudson Link bus has a bike rack that can accommodate three adult-sized bicycles and follows ADA accessibility guidelines. Hudson Link prioritizes health and safety, requiring face coverings and social distancing aboard the shuttle bus.  Face coverings must cover the nose and mouth during the duration of the bus trip. After a fun-filled day on the path, the shuttle bus takes visitors back to their cars or the train station.

At 3.6 miles, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge features one of the longest shared use paths in the United States. Located on the northern side of the bridge's westbound span, cyclists and pedestrians encounter six scenic overlooks, interpretive signage, and works of public art as they cross the Hudson River. Food, restrooms, and other amenities are available at landings in Westchester and Rockland counties.  At the Westchester Landing, visitors can enjoy the services of two vendors: Sleek eBikes and Double Barrel Roasters.

State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez said, "New York State is committed to expanding recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike and the shared use path along the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge is one the best ways to see and experience the majesty of the Hudson River.  The State Department of Transportation is proud to support this free shuttle service for the shared use path, which makes it easier for walkers and bicyclists to access this unique crossing and enjoy the beauty of the bridge and the Hudson River, while also promoting a healthier New York."

New York State Thruway Authority Executive Director Matthew J. Driscoll said,  "The weekend bus shuttle provides a convenient option for people to visit one of the region's most unique outdoor attractions. Both pedestrians and cyclists can take the free shuttle to either landing of the path, and explore the nearby riverfront villages without having to worry about parking. We thank NYSDOT for the continuing partnership."

Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins  said , "As we work to build back better, tourism will be critical to New York's economy. The state-of-the-art bike and pedestrian path on the new bridge attracts visitors from all over, and free weekend shuttle service will only enhance access and increase safety to the path, just in time for the warmer weather."

Assemblymember Kenneth Zebrowski said, "As summer kicks off and more people head outside, I'm excited to see the return of this free weekend shuttle bus service across the bridge. Last year was a tremendous success and I look forward to more New Yorkers on both sides of the river taking advantage of this service. I want to thank Governor Hochul and Commissioner Dominguez for their efforts in ensuring this important service continues."

They can then jump on a free shuttle bus to visit the beautiful lower Hudson Valley villages of Nyack and Tarrytown, with all of the fine dining and amenities they offer."

Rockland County Executive Ed Day said, "Tens of thousands of visitors enjoy this beautiful, shared use path every year and I'm confident this free weekend shuttle service will attract even more walkers and cyclists to the region and our beautiful County of Rockland."

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said, "Westchester County residents are eager to have Hudson Link back and free of charge. The free shuttle is a great way for pedestrians and bicyclists to enjoy the Bridge, the beautiful Hudson River, neighboring counties and the beautiful weather."

Motorists are reminded to Move Over a lane, if safely possible, or slow down significantly whenever encountering roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.  Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual's driver license.
