Last week, SC Grocery Volunteers removed all the boxes of food, and replaced them into new boxes, in their annual inventory quality control effort, according to Bradley Grose, the founder of SC Grocery.
Volunteers removed the refrigeration units out from the entire warehouse, according to Grose. Being that this took place on a food distribution day, and SCGrocery could not distribute groceries, much to the surprise for the family guests coming for a week of groceries, they were greeted with $50 grocery gift cards, according to officials.
This was made possible through a $3,000 grant awarded Santa Clarita Grocery by Santa Clarita Valley local Albertsons and their affiliated supermarkets.
“The timing was amazing that when distribution was down, the families received a holiday grocery gift card,” officials said. “What was beautiful was that several of the senior guests coming for groceries, after receiving their gift card, asked if they could join in and help.”
We had just enough manpower to carry out this monumental task of pulling out, repacking, putting back and relabeling according to shelf dates, several tons of food, according to Grose.
“It’s a great feeling coming to the warehouse knowing the inventory is all in order, the warehouse all clean and the all-volunteer SC Grocery is ready to move into the new year with a clean house,” Grose said.
